Contributor Rights Agreement
This is what you agree to when you tick the permission boxes. We keep a timestamped copy of it with every contribution, so there is never a question about what was agreed.

You keep your work
Copyright in your words, photos, video and voice notes stays yours. Always. Sending it to TRADES does not sign it over.

What you are giving us
Permission for the desk to read, watch and consider it, and — once you have confirmed — to publish it in the printed magazine, on this site, in the newsletter and on our social channels, with the credit you chose.

We ask before anything runs
No contribution is published without coming back to you first with what we plan to run and how you will be credited. If you say no at that point, it does not run.

Credit is your call
Full name, first name only, company only, or anonymous. Tick anonymise and nothing published carries your name, your face or your company. You can change your mind before print.

Editing
We may tidy spelling, grammar, length and structure. We do not change what you meant, put words in your mouth, or invent quotes. If an edit changes the sense, you see it before it runs.

Other people in it
You confirm you have permission from anyone recognisable in what you send. If someone named objects, we take their part out.

Originals stay private
The files you upload are stored privately. Only the desk can open them. Published versions are separate.

Payment
Contributions are not paid unless we agree otherwise in writing beforehand. What you get is credit, a contributor number, standing on the masthead, and — if you make the book — a copy of the issue you are in.

Nobody can buy their way in
Sponsors, partners and donors do not choose what runs, do not see contributions before print, and cannot have anything removed because they dislike it.

Takedown
Ask us to pull your contribution and we take it off the site and out of anything not yet printed. Printed copies already in the world cannot be recalled — that is the nature of print, and it is why we ask first.

Truth
What you send should be true as you know it. Numbers and claims we print with a verification mark are checked with you and with a source first.
